News 2006
U19 ProvincialsThe provincials were held this year in Hamilton, and once again the fields were covered in mud. The conditions of the field hampered the speed that Knights had on the team, but that can be said for everyone teams. At times, conditions were so bad you couldn't be sure if you had the ball or just a big chunk of mud. Our first game was against the team from Simcoe. We took the lead early and played well coming out tied at half time. Things got derailed in the fourth and Simcoe took control finishing out with a with a convincing 14-6 win. Our next game was one that we looked to avenge a loss from an earlier season match in which we should have played better, but as the lacrosse gods would have it, this one was over early. The final score says more than about the game than can be put into words -- 15-3. Many of the Knights players switched positions, tried new things and had fun with the second half . The final game was played against West Durham, having nothing to play for the boys had some fun with this one, taking some chances and making some nice shots and plays. The final here was a tie 7-7. All in all, the season was a good one, the program increased in numbers and the interest and new blood will improve this team over the next few seasons. The new players to the game of field lacrosse have a year of the game under their belt now and next year should be brighter as their understanding of the basic skills and concepts of field lacrosse will have improved. We are now off to Ithaca, NY for the 2006 Turkeyshoot, an annual field lacrosse tournament that is a great weekend of lacrosse. This is a modified version of the full field game on a smaller field that uses a 7 on 7 structure, not the regular 10 on 10. The game is really fast and fun to watch. |
Practice and Try-out Times For U16 and U19The practice and try-out times for the U16 and U19 field lacrosse teams are posted below. The two teams will practice on the same field at either end to start, and, if we need to get more field space, we will. We have to start in the West end of Ottawa initially because of the lack of available field space in the city. We then move to the Nepean Sportsplex for the week of the 12th September. Once at the Sportsplex, you will note, the sessions continue every Tuesday and Thursday. |

U16 Team Looking for Local PlayersWe are planning to run a U16 team this year. If there is enough interest by the middle of July we will enter a team in the U16 Ontario Field Lacrosse League. |
U19 Nemesis Field Lacrosse Changes its NameThe Ottawa U19 Nemesis Field Lacrosse is changing its name and will affiliate with the Nepean Knights Jr B C lub. Th is affiliation will provide better organization for the U19 program and will also help to develop players for the Junior ranks. The new name of this program will be the Ottawa Knights Field Lacrosse . The team will still be open to all players throughout the Zone 5 area and will not be restricted to players from just Nepean or the city of Ottawa. Developing field players will improve skill levels in box lacrosse and is a positive measure for all groups in Zone 5 .

U19This team is made up of players who are 19 or under as of December 31st 2006. Players here start at this division as young as 15, depending on their size and skill level. We are entering this team again this year and try outs will start around mid August, with league play starting Sept 10th. We will play four Sundays between Sept and the end of October, with a weekend of provincial play downs to follow. This team will also be entered in either the Ithaca tournament or another tournament on the East coast. Please make contact ottawaknights@nepeanknights.com , and leave your email address expressing your interest in playing U19 this fall. I will forward the schedule of try outs as they become firm. U16This is the first year that the U16 is offered in the fall in terms of Ontario League play. It also marks the first year that we are offering the chance for younger players to play in this league. If we fall short of committing a team for league play, then we will be offering a format that has the younger players practicing with the 19s at times and setting up exhibition games and entering tournaments. Our preference is towards league play but we would need a commitment from at least 20 players. Again if you are interested in playing at this level contact the same email ottawaknights@nepeanknights.com , and we will be in contact with you as decisions are made. |
