NEPEAN KNIGHTS JUNIOR "B" LACROSSE

Knights Sign Key Veteran Players

Nepean Knights General Manager Dean Joncas had his pen out at the club’s first training camp session signing several key returning veteran players.  Inking playing cards for the 2008 season were Chris Ford, Jordan Weedmark,  Andrew Marquis and Jordan Joncas.

2008 evaluationThe GM was quick to note “These four young men are some of the key core players of our line-up.  Having them out early sends a clear message to other players, this will be an exciting season for the Knights”.

Knights’ new Head Coach, Chad Fairfoull along with assistant coach Chris Parker put the players through a series of quick tempo ball movement drills.  In his first assignment as a Head Coach in the OLA, Fairfoull is expected to be instrumental in attracting players back to the Knights’ line-up.  His upbeat approach of fast break lacrosse coaching is expected to vastly improve the Knights’ offensive output.

Jordan Weedmark displayed his magical stick skills throughout the entire workout.  Weedmark netted 19 goals and 34 assists in 2007 and is expected to improve those numbers this season.  Coach Fairfoull is looking for Jordan to net 30 or more goals in 2008.

It was great to see Chris Ford out this early.  The 2007 season was an injury filled year for Ford.  Nonetheless, he tallied 18 points in 6 games.  But more than his ball handling abilities, the team missed his exceptional leadership, both off and on the floor.  A highly respected competitor, Chris will be instrumental to the success of the Knights’ 2008 season.

Andrew Marquis carried the bulk of the goaltending chores in 2007 and led the team in wins.  With the Knights new approach this season; expectations are for Andrew to shine with his impressive passing skills.  And he didn’t disappoint onlookers as he displayed plenty of energy at the team’s initial evaluation session.

Although not in attendance at the evaluation camp (he is attending Potsdam College), the signing of Jordan Joncas who led the Knights in scoring last season with 33 goals and 27 assists was a given.  Jordan is expanding his lacrosse resume as he is currently playing field lacrosse for the Bears while attending Potsdam in the United States.

There were a number of additional players catching the eye of the coaching staff at the first evaluation session, including 3 midget aged players.

Next session is this Saturday.  Location is the Norm Fenn Gym.  Start time is 9:00 p.m.  Better not wait too long to get out, as more playing cards are expected to be signed at each session.

Again....Saturday, March 8th beginning at 9:00 p.m. at the Norm Fenn Gym at Carleton University.  Directions are available on Knights’ website.
