NEPEAN KNIGHTS JUNIOR "B" LACROSSE

2005 GAME REPORTS

June 21

Nepean 15 Gloucester 11

The final regular season game between these two long time cross town rivals featured some of the most entertaining lacrosse seen at Merivale Arena this season. The ball moved up and down the floor with relative ease, passes were crisp, fast breaks were regular and shots were plenty - it was good old time lacrosse! Referees Kevin Biggs and Joe Standup called a near perfect game and they had the players respect - something usually unheard of in Jr B lacrosse. This game also marked the final game of the Ferguson Cup series held annually between Nepean and Gloucester for Junior B bragging rights in Ottawa, with Nepean taking the coveted cup 4 games to none.

Scoring for both teams was spread around. For Nepean: Brad Conlon (0,2), Jeremy Kearns (0,2), Alex Vidoni (2, 6), Jordan Joncas (1,1), Nick Vidoni (1), Jeff Salmon (3), Chris Parker (2,1), Mike Bergin (2,3), Nick Hughboy (3,2), Chris Lamb (0,1), Evan Sarazen (1,2) and Nick Held (0,1) For Gloucester: Joey Floyd (0,2), Ryan Evoy (0,1), Krystian Seguin (2,6), Derek Laurikainen (0,1), Neil Campbell (0,1), Ranald Pecore (2,1), Matt Degagne (2,2), Andrew Dilworth (3,2), Connor Barrett (1,0) and Matt Denis (1,1).

Players of the Game: Nepean - Chris Parker; Gloucester: Krystian Seguin

PIMS: Nepean 16 Gloucester 10.

Next up for Nepean: Saturday, June 25th - 8:00 pm @ Oakville; Sunday, June 26th - 2:00 pm @ Halton Hills

June 7

Nepean 11 Gloucester 10

In complete contrast to the game three days earlier, Nepean had what was probably their poorest outing of the season. With regular goaltender Brad Conlon playing out and scoring the Knights first goal, the Knights took a 5-1 lead after one period. However, then the wheels fell off the wagon. The Knights appeared to be very over-confident, expecting a repeat of Saturday nights 20-3 drubbing of the Griffins. However, Gloucester had other ideas and took full advantage of the Knights over-confidence and nearly pulled out their first victory in what has become a very long season for the Griffins. This was a game Gloucester deserved to win. They worked extremely hard and jumped all over the Knights sloppy play during the 2nd & 3rd periods. Fortunately for the Knights, time ran out with Gloucester pressing for the tying goal.

Players of the Game: Nepean - Graham O'Regan, Gloucester - Andrew Dilworth

June 4

Nepean 20 Gloucester 3

Nepean controlled this one from the start. With 5th year goalie Brad Conlon stopping almost everything thrown his way and also assisting on 6 Knights goals, the Knights victory was never in doubt. The Knights took full advantage of the Griffins inexperienced line-up, including a Midget house league goaltender who was called up at the last minute to step in for their two ailing regular tenders.

Players of the Game: Nepean - Jeff Salmon, Gloucester - Ranald Pecore

May 18

Akwesasne Lightning 13 Nepean Knights 0

Last night, the Akwesasne Lightning showed why they are one of the top teams in the East Conference. The fast moving, well balanced Lightning, controlled the game from the onset against the younger, less experienced Knights. Period scores were 3-0, 8-0 & 13-0. If not for the outstanding play of Knights goaltender Joe Tallis, who was the Knights player of the game, the score would have been even higher. The Knights had several new faces in the line-up which gave them a full bench for the first time in several weeks. While this gave the Knights more fresh legs, their inexperience combined with the more experienced Lightning's stingy defence, lead to many outside shots which Lightning goaltender, Angus Goodleaf, was able to handle with relative ease. When the Knights were able to get in close, Goodleaf, who was the Lightning player of the game, shut the door. The Knights young line up hurried many passes, dropped numerous balls and missed a number of defensive assignments throughout the game. The play which characterized the Knights game this evening was a beautiful flip pass from a Knights attacker to a streaking team mate who never even saw the pass as it sailed up and over the glass just inside the offensive zone.

Next up for the Knights is a home game against the Saints from Scarborough who are at Merivale Arena on Sunday, May 22nd @ 2:00 pm. Come out and support your Nepean Knights!
