Alas the plan did not quite work out the way he had planned and got caught out of his cage as Pat Saunders fired the ball into the open net for the 14th goal of the game. However, it would Saunders Halton Hills Bulldogs teammate, Mike Brown getting credit for the game-winning-goal just 54 seconds later. Western goalie, Johnson made a few more attempts at scoring on Bigtree, but was stopped and was not able to get back to the netting in time to make the saves as the Eastern Conference players did not miss on their opportunities. A total of 57 more shots were fired on goal in the third period by both teams. The Western Conference finished with an 83-74 edge in shots-on-goal for the entire game.

The Eastern Conference would be led by their Game MVP, Chris Ford (Nepean) and his six-point (1G, 5A) night. The Knights started the scoring early, but couldn’t capitalize on several other chances throughout the period. A strong defensive game by both clubs left the score at 3-1 at the end of the first. The two teams continued to emphasize defence into the second and third which meant a low scoring, but exciting match between these two clubs. The Knights were in this one until the very end and, unfortunately, just couldn’t break through with a flourish of goals to take the lead.

Scoring for the Knights:

Craig Cowie 2 G, 3
Nepean Nevan Sullivan 2 G
Jordan Weedmark 2 G
Chris Ford 1 G, 3 A
Brett Lewandowsky 1 G, 1 A
Andrew Marquis 1 A

Knights Start the Weekend Right

The Knights were in town today to take on the Huntsville Hawks. Nepean took control of the game early with a quick goal by Chris Ford. The Knights continued to dominate the game with some great fast breaks and strong defence. By the end of the first period the Knights had a 3 goal lead and were ready to expand upon that. The second period saw Huntsville close the gap to within two goals, but then Nepean took advantage of their fast break game and used this to tally 7 straight unanswered goals to end the period with an 11-2 lead. The Knights relaxed a bit in the 3rd period and ended up giving up two quick goals, which resulted in a Nepean goaltending change. The game ended with the Knights outscoring the Hawks 13-7.

Scoring for the Knights:

Brett Lewandowsky 6 G, 2 A
Craig Cowie 1 G, 3 A
Chris Ford 1 G, 2 A
Nevan Sullivan 1 G, 1 A
Kyle Drisdelle 1 G, 1 A
Jordan Bush 1 G, 1 A
Tyler McIntosh 1 G
Jordan Weedmark 1 G
Andrew Marquis 3 A

Knights Drop a Must Win Game

The Knights travelled to Newmarket today and took on the Saints. Nepean came out slow and couldn't recover for the entire first period. Having a hard time catching the ball and a severe lack of defence in their own end all contributed to the Knights being unable to finish or even test the Saints goalie. The effort provided the Knights goaltender with little support. A goaltender change late in the period didn't provide a spark to Nepean as the score was 5-0 after 1st period.

Even though the Knights moved to with a few goals, a lack of disciplined play in the 2nd resulted in the Knights losing an opportunity to even the score. A few unnecessary penalties, several players whose shifts were too long and a general malaise resulted in a lack of focus and the team having a hard time defensively.

A penalty to start the 3rd resulted in a quick Newmarket goal, which was not how the Knights wanted to start the period. The period developed along slowly, with the Saints controlling the clock and the game. With the score at 11-6 and the Knights starting to build momentum, two quick Saints goals brought Andrew Marquis back between the pipes.

The game ended with the teams trading goals, the final score ending up at 15-8.

Scoring for Nepean was:

Matt Tenute 2 G,
Jordan Weedmark 2 G, 1 A
Jordan Joncas 1 G, 1 A
Craig Cowie 1 G
Noam Goldstein 1 G
Brett Lewandowsky 1 G
Chris Ford 3 A
Andrew Marquis 2 A
Chris Chuback 2 A

Knights Slow off the Mark Today

The Knights were home this afternoon and hosted the Mimico Mountaineers. The game started off slow for the Knights with the teams exchanging goals but the Mountaineers soon took control and a strong lead. By the end of the first, Mimico had a 5-2 lead.

The Knights came out more forcefully in the 2nd, and exchanged goals with the Mountaineers, but could put together a consistent run to dent the Mimico lead. With the 3rd period starting and the teams six goals apart the Knights had their hands full trying to mount a comeback. Unfortunately, it was not the Knights game and the final score was 14-9.

The game was marked by a lack of intensity and it gave fans a feeling that the players were just a bit too relaxed today. The Knights continued to work on their fast break style and came out with a couple of quick goals. The Griffins fought back, but the 1st period ended 4-2. The second period was a low scoring affair, but the Knights managed to stay ahead of the Griffins. The third period began as a close one, with the teams at 5-4. Two shorthanded goals by the Knights moved the score to 7-4 and a late period goal sealed the victory for Nepean. It was a hard fought victory, but it has a lot of positives for the team, who are starting to work well together. Nepean, playing a fast-break style that was very successful, particularly in the first and second periods, provided the crowd with an exciting game.

The Knights owe Andrew Marquis a huge debt of gratitude as his phenomenal play was responsible for keeping them in the game during the first and third periods. Nepean went on a good run in the second period and managed to chase the Akwesasne starting goalie after seven goals.

The captain, Chris Ford, put on several great displays of speed, defence, ball handling and play making. Devon Tough, Brett Lewandowsky and Jordan Joncas all had strong games as well.

Penalties became an issue in second and third as both teams struggled with man down situations. As the Knights found their scoring touch again later in the third period, they netted a few more late goals to cement the victory, 13 - 5.

Scoring for Nepean was:

Chris Ford: 1 G, 3 A
Nevan Sullivan: 1 G, 3 A
Jordan Joncas: 2 G. 1 A
Devon Tough: 2 G, 1 A
Andrew Marquis: 3 A
Brett Lewandowsky: 2 G
Sean Vradenburg: 1 G, 1 A
Jordan Weekmark: 1 G, 1 A
Noam Goldstein: 1 G
Jordan Bush: 1 G
Brett Jackson 1 G

The Knights next game is Sunday May 4th at 2 pm at Merivale Arena vs. Oakville.
